Fisker Pear Specifications

The Fisker Pear, announced as a budget electric car project in 2021 has officially become the brand’s second product, following the Fisker Ocean SUV. Reservations for the Fisker Pear are open in the United States. Early birds can pre-order with a small deposit of USD 250. Customers making a second reservation get a USD 150 discount (second reservation deposit USD 100).

Fisker Pear EV

Reservations opened for Fisker’s second EV earlier this year even though the car won’t start production until 2024. The PEAR, for “Personal Electric Automotive Revolution,” will be the first Fisker vehicle made in the U.S. In a deal with manufacturer Foxconn, the car will be made at a factory in Ohio.

The new EV company, headed by famous car designer Henrik Fisker, is in full swing with its first vehicle, the all-electric Ocean. That SUV is planned for production at the Magna plant in Austria in November.

CEO Fisker anticipates the five-seater PEAR to be a high-volume EV with $1 million worth of PEARs sold each year by 2027. Because of low manufacturing costs of the lightweight platform the PEAR has a low starting price, just under $30,000. Two higher-cost variations are anticipated after the 2024 launch in 2025 and 2026.

Fisker has kept design and other details brief, but the PEAR will seat five and be a compact “city” car.  When it was first announced in 2021 the PEAR was described as a small crossover. Limited imagery indicates it will be a smaller vehicle than the Ocean.

In a press statement, Fisker said, “Our engineering group is working on new features and high-tech solutions for the PEAR that will change how we use and enjoy a vehicle in the city.”

The word PEAR is an abbreviation of Personal Electric Automotive Revolution. Inspiration for the Fisker Pear “has come from some unconventional sources.” Here’s what we know about the affordable electric car:

Fisker Pear Specifications

SLV1, a new platform developed in-house, will underpin the Fisker Pear, the CEO revealed during the company’s Q2 2022 earnings conference call. Later, this platform will spawn two additional models. At the Bank of America 2021 Virtual Global Automotive Summit, Fisker talked about the Fisker Project Pear. “We already have defined the platform, the specs, the main concept layout for this vehicle,” the CEO said. Further, he indicated that the potential Tesla Model 2/Model Q rival resulting from this project would be like no other car in the market today, ICE or electric.

Fisker didn’t yet reveal any details about the electric powertrain in the 2024 PEAR. However, the PEAR could have a variation of the electric motor setup in the Ocean. The Ocean Sport features a single motor front-wheel drive system, while the Ultra, Extreme, and One trims have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system.

The Ocean with the single electric motor generates 275 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 6.9 seconds. For the dual-motor system, the output is 550 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph time as low as 3.6 seconds. Like the Ocean, the PEAR will likely have a base-level driving range of around 250 miles, with upper trims topping out at around 350 miles. Also, the PEAR will undoubtedly have fast-charging capabilities.

Fisker Pear Range

Fisker will offer the Pear with two battery packs, and it’s targeting a range of over 310 miles for the long-range variant. The company is yet to make a finalize its battery supplier, Fisker said during the company’s Q2 2022 earnings conference call. Company hasn’t ruled out having more than one supplier to secure itself from unanticipated risks. The company wants to source locally manufactured batteries and is considering a joint venture for the same, Fisker indicated during the call.

During Fisker’s Q1 2022 earnings conference call on May 4, 2022, the company’s CEO said that the new platform would be very cost-efficient. The three models built on it, the other two of which come out successively in 2025 and 2026, will give the company an annual sales volume of a million units in 2027.

What is the meaning of the Fisker PEAR’s name?

There are not too many cars that are named after a fruit or other types of food. The Datsun/Nissan Cherry from the 1970s and 1980s is an exception. A long-rumored electric Apple car could be in the works as well.

However, the Fisker PEAR is not actually named after the sweet and delicious fruit. PEAR is an acronym that stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution.

Fisker Pear Exterior

Fisker announced the Pear as its economy-class EV in February 2021 and released a teaser along with the announcement, suggesting it would be a new light crossover. Given the high popularity of crossover/SUV models in the brand’s core markets (existing and planned), it is understandable that it would prefer traits of this body type in the product.

First Teaser

The first teaser revealed not much except a hip design, which would be in line with the Fisker Ocean SUV, and compact dimensions, which would make it suitable for the narrow roads of European cities and the crowded streets of Asia. Apart from the USA and Canada, Fisker is considering launching the two-box design in China and Europe.

Second Teaser

In February 2022, Fisker released another teaser which offered a closer look at the details. It seems like the Pear features a full-width light bar at the front and rear, in what is fast becoming a signature design cue of bespoke EVs. Fisker says that the Pear will be a compact EV offering seats for five people, intuitive controls, sporty driving, and clever storage. The company won’t stop at teasers, though—it plans to unveil a concept version beforehand to help customers visualize what the production version will look like.

Additional Teasers

In May 2022, Fisker released two additional teasers of the Pear. The first picture (the first image in the gallery below) almost reveals the exterior from the three-quarter front angle, while the second picture reveals more details of the EV’s fascia.

The Fisker Pear is a small car with an unusual design and pronounced wheel arches. It features slim headlights, an illuminated brand logo, an entirely closed upper grille, and a wide hexagonal lower air intake featuring honeycomb pattern inserts and a large sensor (possibly for autonomous driving) at the front. The clean and concave upper portion and the headlights offer a mean yet minimalistic appearance to the electric vehicle. During Fisker’s Q2 2022 earnings conference call on August 3, 2022, Fisker said that the round windscreen is “super cool” and while it’s difficult to carry over that feature into the production version, the company will make it happen.

On the sides, we notice the Pear’s curved A-pillar, pronounced wheel arches, digital mirrors, and a straight beltline on the sides. It has two proper doors indicated by the B-pillar and handles. The rear end is not visible, but the tail lamps are high up.

Finalize

Using details from the teasers, our rendering foreshadows the Pear’s exterior. In addition to the details revealed in the teaser, our rendering features a two-tier headlamp layout, with the main lights positioned separately in the middle section of the bumper. We’ve tried capturing the main details like the greenhouse, wheel arches, wheels, grille, logo, and intake, with guidance from the official teasers. Compared to the sketches, we expect the production car to be dialed-down to comply with global homologation rules and meet the stiff cost target.

At the Q4 2021 and CY 2021 earnings call, Fisker indicated that the Pear would be futuristic in both form and function. He hesitates to use ‘car’ and prefers terming it a ‘mobility device.’ That’s because it looks so different, the way it will function, and some of its innovative storage features.

Fisker has nearly finalized the exterior design, and the CEO has confirmed that it has nothing to do with the Ocean in the looks department. The company finished one of its first engineering milestones on the Pear program in the second week of February 2022.

Fisker Pear Interior

The Fisker Pear concept  is a glimpse of what’s to come. The production version of this car will likely be normal, but we can get an idea of the layout and theme from the teaser image.

The wraparound windscreen provides a commanding view of the road ahead, while the low-set beltline and windows open up an expansive view of the surroundings. The dashboard and center console seem to have lit surfaces with a minimalist design. The dash offers plenty of storage area, while the center console floats down towards the front in an unusual fashion. A large panoramic roof will double as a solar roof that extends the driving range.

Fisker Houdini trunk

The Pear is likely to offer great practicality despite its small dimensions. Fisker says it will be the brand’s first model featuring the ‘Fisker Houdini’ trunk. The company didn’t go into detail about this feature, simply stating that it will be an alternative to conventional rear cargo hatches. It revealed this feature in an announcement on June 8, 2022, and it could share more information about the same closer to the unveiling of the concept.

“Reinventing the car as we know it”

In an interview with Wallpaper, Henrik Fisker, Chairman & CEO, Fisker, said that the Pear is about “reinventing the car as we know it.” Designed for urban mobility and young people, Fisker expects the new entry-level car to generate buzz and win hearts across the globe and become an iconic model like the VW Beetle and the MINI Cooper. The odds of releasing a truly iconic, worldwide classic is perhaps one in ten thousand, but Fisker is committed to designing a car that’ll be remembered for decades.

Fisker Pear Dimensions & Positioning

According to an Autocar report, Fisker has described the Pear as the type of urban car Apple would build for Los Angeles, London, and other megacities. Roughly 4,500 mm (177.2 in.) in length, as stated on fiskerinc.com/reserve, the Fisker Pear isn’t an urban car like the Fiat 500e or Renault Zoe. While a typical urban model is from the A-segment and isn’t longer than 3,700 mm (145.7 in.), the Pear will likely belong to the C-segment, making it suitable for a wide range of markets, including the U.S. and Canada, European countries, and China.

Fisker Pear Features

We already know from the Design section that the Fisker Pear will feature a new lighting technology and a wraparound front windscreen inspired by a glider plane glass canopy. Before this, Fisker had revealed (during the Q1 2022 earnings conference call) that the Pear will boast the company’s next-gen connectivity, ADAS functionality, and OTA platform capabilities. A “discontented” and “lower cost” version is under consideration for emerging markets.

Fisker Pear Release Date

Fisker is currently taking pre-orders/reservations for the PEAR. The electric 2024 Fisker PEAR crossover SUV will likely be on the road in early 2024.

The Fisker PEAR will be built in Ohio in a partnership with electronics manufacturer Foxconn. It will likely be the same plant that will produce the Lordstown Endurance EV pickup truck.

Fisker Pear deliveries in the U.S. will begin in 2024. Fisker has received more than 4,000 reservations for the Pear, Fisker (the CEO) revealed during the company’s Q2 2022 earnings conference call. It expects to start prototype testing at the end of the year and conduct the world premiere in the second half of 2023.

A concept version allowing reservation holders and other potential customers to get a fair idea of what they can expect from the final product could debut in 2023. In 2021, Fisker suggested that the company would unveil the production version close to the launch in 2024, not years in advance.

Fisker Pear Price

The starting price of the base-level 2024 Fisker PEAR will be $29,900. Otherwise, Fisker hasn’t yet revealed the trim lineup for the PEAR and how much each trim will cost. However, Car and Driver believes that the PEAR will mirror the trim lineup of the larger Ocean crossover SUV (Sport, Ultra, Extreme, and One), with the following starting prices:

Variant Price
Sport $ 29,900
Ultra $ 40,000 (estimated)
Extreme $ 55,000 (estimated)
One $ 55,000 (estimated)

For comparison, the starting cost of the Ocean is $37,499 for the Sport, $49,999 for the Ultra, and $68,999 for the Extreme and One trims. Like the Ocean, the PEAR will likely offer a special edition One trim with unique styling and features. Also, all of these prices don’t include the federal EV tax credit.

Fisker Pear Production

To achieve the low targeted prices and bring the product to the market on time, Fisker is outsourcing the production to Foxconn, which will make the car in Ohio, USA. Foxconn is a Taiwanese contract manufacturer that manufactures Apple products.

Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd.) will build the Fisker Pear at the Lordstown factory it acquired in Ohio starting in 2024. Fisker and its contract manufacturer expect to produce no less than 250,000 units of the second Fisker model a year after a ramp-up period.

Fisker wants no less than 250,000 units of the Pear manufactured a year right from the initial stage. This is a really important point, as the company could be aiming for an even higher annual production capacity later in its pursuit to democratize EVs if consumers show interest in Fisker. The company is also considering production in Europe, China, and India.

On February 24, 2021, Fisker announced that it had signed an MOU with Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) and revealed the proposed collaboration highlights. As per the arrangement, Fisker and Foxconn would co-develop “a breakthrough new segment vehicle” with potential globally, including North America, Europe, China, and India. The MoU also stated that Foxconn would manufacture more than 250,000 units (projected volume) of this model annually, with the SOP scheduled in Q4 2023.

Foxconn is confident about the speedy development and rollout of this EV, estimating completion in half the time traditionally required to launch a new model.

Fisker said that its tie-up with Foxconn for Project Pear “unlocks sub-$30k price point for a “no-compromises” EV.
